CrossRoad AI — est. 2025 A studio of two (or more?) projects

Software that feels made by someone.

CrossRoad AI is a small studio. We're engineers and researchers out of the labs you've heard of, building quietly on the things we wish existed — products you can feel the hand of, infrastructure that gets out of the way.

About

We got tired of software
that sounds like software.

CrossRoad AI is a studio, not a startup. No roadmap of forty features. No race to be the biggest or the smartest. Just a small group of people making two things, carefully, in public.

We came out of the labs you've heard of — the ones chasing scale, benchmarks, the next frontier. Our work there mattered. But somewhere between the dashboards and the demos, a small worry kept returning: the things we were building didn't feel like anything.

So we left, and started here. CrossRoad AI is where we make software the way we wish software were made — slowly, with taste, by humans you can name. Two projects so far: a chatbot that talks like a friend, and the quiet infrastructure that lets small teams train their own models without bending a knee to the big clouds.

Projects

Two things, made with care.

In beta Folio I

Project Frigatebird

A chatbot that sounds like a person.

Every other AI is trying to impress you. Frigatebird is trying to understand you. A companion that talks like a trusted friend — no corporate voice, no uncanny cheerfulness, no "as an AI language model." Just presence, on the other end of a sentence.

Project Superslime

Heterogeneous training infra for small labs.

A training cluster that doesn't assume you're OpenAI. Mix whatever GPUs you've got — consumer, datacenter, borrowed — and get on-demand allocations for fine-tunes, small model training, or scrappy ML jobs. Built on Kubernetes and the KAI scheduler, quiet where it should be.

Principles

What we believe,
in a few lines.

01 — Taste

Taste is the feature.

Everything downstream — features, metrics, growth — is easier when the thing itself is good. We start there.

02 — Scale

Small on purpose.

A small team moves at the speed of ideas. We don't want to be the biggest studio. We want to be the one you tell a friend about.

03 — Voice

No corporate voice.

Software that sounds like a person was made by people who care. Software that sounds like a brand was made by a meeting.

04 — Pace

Slowly, then all at once.

We'd rather ship one thing that lands than ten that don't. Quiet for a while is part of the process.

Get in touch

Working on something similar? Say hello.

We read everything. We're slow to reply but quick to notice. Collaborations, early access, the occasional thoughtful pitch — all welcome.
